StudentCam is C-SPAN’s annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think critically about issues that affect our communities and our nation.
August 2021 – C-SPAN will launch the updated StudentCam website for the 2022 StudentCam competition to coincide with the beginning of the new school year.
For the 2021/2022 school year, we are asking students in grades 6-12 to create a short (5-6 minute) video documentary on a topic that relates to the competition theme, “How does the federal government impact your life?”
The submission deadline for all entries will be Thursday, January 20, 2022. With cash prizes totaling $100,000 each year, C-SPAN awards prizes to the top 150 student documentaries. If you are a teacher and listed as an adviser on one of the top 50 winning films, you will also receive a cash award. ARE THERE SCHOLARSHIPS SPECIFICALLY FOR LATINOS? The number of Latino students starting college this year has grown. There will be more new students of Latino descent than any other minority group. And while college costs can be too expensive for many students, scholarships are available.
To qualify for scholarship money, Latino students should consider their grade point average (GPA), test scores, and community involvement. THE DREAM AWARD – Who Can Qualify? Applicants for the Dream Award must:
- Be at least 17 years of age.
- Be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents (holders of a Permanent Resident card), or individuals granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA).
- Have received a high school diploma or the equivalent from a U.S. school by September 2021.
- Have completed or expect to successfully complete a minimum of one full year of postsecondary education by June 2022.
- Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at the sophomore year level or higher at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school in the United States for the entire 2022-23 academic year.

When Joy’s mother found us on the internet, she didn’t know what to expect. Joy was living her life being a normal 12 year old, committed to baseball and getting good grades.
